TurnUp! with Dallas City of Learning with Dallas Public Library

It’s TurnUp time so mark your calendars for Thursday, July 29 at 2 p.m.! Dallas City of Learning is partnering with the Dallas Public Library. This virtual community event will be live-streamed from the DCoL Facebook page featuring four hands-on learning experiences.
Guided by librarians, attendees will get to participate in fairytale-themed fitness — think climbing like Jack and the Beanstalk — and build an animal-themed breathing buddy to help keep calm. There will also be the chance to try out a science experiment all about viscosity and an opportunity to create a storytelling quilt based on artist Faith Ringgold’s work. You can choose to participate in one, some or all of these experiences!
We suggest having a few materials on hand for three of the activities. Here’s what we recommend:
- A sheet of paper to collage on
- Scraps of paper, magazines, or newspapers to cut
- Scissors
- Glue (glue stick or bottle of glue)
- Markers or crayons
- 4 clear cups (or glasses)
- Water
- Oil
- Corn Syrup
- Blue food coloring (optional)
- 4 small objects with different densities (ex. Styrofoam, Lego, grape, penny)
- A paper cup (ask an adult to cut a hole in the bottom of the cup, big enough to breathe through)
- Markers
- Safety scissors
- Items to decorate (pom-poms, sequins, etc.)
- Glue or tape
- Tissue paper or crepe paper
